Luca di Montezemolo lashes out on Bernie Ecclestone for comments about Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has lashed out on Bernie Ecclestone’s comments about Ferrari requesting a clarification over Sebastian Vettel’s Brazilian GP overtake dispute.
When Ferrari had made the request to FIA for the clarification, Ecclestone had stated that the whole issue was a joke and it was wrong of Ferrari to take such an action.
“Ecclestone? You have to show respect for your elders, especially when they get to that stage in which they are no longer in control of what they say,” Montezemolo said. “However, old age is clearly incompatible with certain roles and responsibilities.”
However, Montezemolo added that they have no more issues and appreciated the Red Bull team coming out successful at the end of a difficult season.
“The FIA declared that for them there had been no infringement and so the matter was closed,” Montezemolo said. “Congratulations to Vettel and Red Bull because whoever won after such a difficult season deserved the title and because at Ferrari that is what
we do. And we would like everyone to congratulate us next season if we win the world championship.”
He also appreciated his own team saying that Ferrari had played one of the main roles throughout the season as they kept the fight alive for the championship right until the end of it. He said that the upcoming season will be very important and it is necessary
to make it to the top this time. He told that the team needs to work hard and will try their best to provide both drivers with better cars.
The whole controversy had begun with a video that revealed Vettel overtaking Toro Rosso’s Jean Eric Vergne under the yellow lights. To clear the confusion that followed, Ferrari requested FIA for clarification to which they replied that there was no case
to answer. FIA explained the rules and told that Vettel had obeyed a green flag so he was not at any mistake.
Ferrari had also explained earlier that their request for the clarification was not intended to challenge the result of the title deciding Brazilian GP and they considered the issue to be over as they respected all decisions taken by the FIA.
