Luca di Montezemolo says 2011 championship very difficult but Ferrari must not give up – Formula 1
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has stated that although the championship battle in the 2011 Formula 1 season is almost over but the Ferrari camp must up their game and should go for it.
Luca added that the Ferrari team have clearly showed some potential in the last few races for which the team should be proud of.
He stated that although the Scarlet team has started developing the 2012 car, which is usual at this time of the year, but still Stefano Domenicali and his boys should not talk negative about the team’s chances in the 2011 championship.
Talking about Ferrari’s performance in the 2011 season so far, Luca stated, “In the past few days, I have gone over the situation with Stefano Domenicali and his engineers. We are working flat out and one can see improvements compared to the early races
and this is partly down to adopting a different approach to the development of the car.”
Ferrari’s Formula 1 driver Fernando Alonso, who is 99 points behind Sebastian Vettel, conceded that he is out of the championship battle although 11 races are still to be contested.
Stefano also stated that the Ferrari team will wait until Silverstone before they give up hope on the 2011 title and start working on the 2012 car.
“We know the situation in both championships is very difficult, but I don't want to hear any talk of giving in: we must try to progress continuously and to fight for the win at every race, which is a must for Ferrari,” stated Luca.
Nevertheless, as far as Luca is concerned the championship is not over until it is over so the Ferrari team should keep pushing in the 2011 season.
Ferrari are placed third in the constructors’ championship with 129 points, 166 adrift of defending champions, Red Bull Racing. Let’s see how the Maranello-based team performs in the remainder of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
