Luca di Montezemolo thinks it is too soon to move Sergio Perez into Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has said that Sergio Perez of Sauber hasn’t got enough experience to join the Scarlet team in the next season.
Perez has impressed everyone with his amazing performance in the season so far. He has been seen as Felipe Massa’s replacement in the Italian squad since his tremendous second podium finish in the wet weather conditions of the Malaysian Grand Prix.
Furthermore, he has recently showed a commendable performance in the Italian GP held at Autodromo di Monza during the last week in which he again secured an inspiring second podium finish and overtook Massa and his teammate, Fernando Alonso who is currently
leading the drivers’ championship with 179 points.
Once again, the reports are stating that the Maranello based team is considering Perez as a potential replacement of the Brazilian driver who has struggled in most of the races in the season until now.
However, Montezemolo has discharged all the rumours and has asserted that it is too early for the youngster to join their team.
"Next season is too early," he told Sky Sports News. "I'm very pleased for him because first of all it showed that our choice when we picked up him as a young driver was good. Then it is thanks to Sauber, thanks to the Ferrari Academy, he grow up. To put
a young guy to Ferrari with the pressure of Ferrari, you need more experience."
In addition, the Italian gave an example of Sebastian Vettel of Red Bull Racing by relating him to Michael Schumacher who joined Ferrari during the mid-1990s before which he raced with Benetton for few years.
"I think that Vettel is more or less in the condition like when Michael was in Benetton. He's young, he's a very good driver and he's making a very good experience," he added.
The Mexican driver has surely got the potential to achieve more and he has what it takes to be in such a legendary team. Over and above, it will be interesting to see whether he will be able to make his way into Ferrari in the upcoming years or not.
