Luca di Montezemolo throws support behind Felipe Massa – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president, Luca di Montezemolo has thrown his support behind Felipe Massa after his struggling first two races of 2012 F1 season.
Moreover, Montezemolo expressed that they have full confidence in the Brazilian driver.
SID news agency of Germany quotes Montezemolo as saying, “We have great confidence in Massa. And at the moment I don’t see many outstanding drivers out there.”
It is important to mention that there have been many speculations regarding the replacement of Massa with Sergio Perez of Sauber who showed an amazing performance in the second GP held at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia and finished at second podium
after following the Spaniard, Fernando Alonso of the Red team.
Nevertheless, Stefano Domenicali, the team principal of Ferrari, has said that they are prepared to support Massa and will provide him with everything to improve his performance for the forthcoming races.
Furthermore, Massa has cancelled his plan of going to see his family in Brazil after second race and headed towards the factory of the Scarlet team in Maranello this week.
“Felipe has changed his plans and, instead of heading home to see his family in Brazil, he will be in Maranello tomorrow to work alongside the engineers to calmly analyse everything that happened in these past two races, trying to identify why he was not
able to deliver what he is capable of. That's the right spirit and we are here, ready to help him,” said Domenicali.
Ferrari have had quite a problematic pre-season this year and remained in extreme pressure as the technical director, Pat Fry ruled out the possibility of a podium finish in the season opener. Moreover, Alonso also said that they would struggle in the first
few races of the season.
However, Alonso is now leading the championship with his fifth place finish in the first race and an impressive victory in the rainy conditions at the second race.
Nonetheless, he said that the win in the second GP has changed nothing for the team as they still have to work really hard in order to make the necessary advancements and significant preparations to improve their performance in the normal conditions for
the races ahead.
