Luca di Montezemolo urges Ferrari to keep focussing after their British GP triumph – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said that his team should try to stay focused and keep its feet on the ground for the rest of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
The team recently secured its first race victory of the 2011 Formula 1 season as Fernando Alonso won the race around 16 seconds ahead of the two Red Bull Racing drivers.
Ferrari have been struggling to perform at its best in 2011 as they were way off the pace of both Red Bull Racing and McLaren during the first couple of races but with due time, they have now improved their performance and are now back on track.
However, the team is 164 points adrift of Red Bull Racing in the constructors’ standings. Meanwhile Alonso is currently in 3rd place in the drivers’ standings with 112 points which is 92 points short of the current championship leader Sebastian
Vettel.
Therefore, the team still has a lot to do this season and di Montezemolo urged his team to stay focused and perform at its best for the rest of the season as well.
“We managed to win and that is down to you and I want to thank you all for it. You have done well and have shown, every single one of you, how to react at a difficult time. You did not lose heart and you managed to improve in all areas,” he said.
One has to admit though that the only way the team can secure the drivers’ championship is if Vettel retires out of at least 3 of the remaining 10 races of the 2011 Formula 1 season. Since Red Bull are quite consistent at the moment, it seems that the reigning
world champion’s chances of winning the title this year are quite high.
“In Stefano Domenicali you have a boss who has proved to be a leader and the congratulations I gave him immediately after the race on Sunday are for all of you,” said the Ferrari president.
More importantly, Ferrari need to be consistent as well which is the reason why Luca has urged his team to score the best possible results until the end of the season to increase its championship chances.
