Luca di Montezemolo urges the FIA to change F1 rules and regulations – Formula 1 news
Ferrari Boss, Luca di Montezemolo, has urged the FIA, the governing body of Formula 1, to change the rules and regulations of the sport in order to transform it.
Montezemolo said, “There are things that aren’t going well in this sport and the moment has arrived to clarify these once and for all in the appropriate places. We can no longer have a situation in which the transfer of technology from the track to the street
is reduced to the bare minimum, engines and gearboxes are always the same and the aerodynamics no longer has anything to do with research for road cars.”
He also added that Ferrari has been trying to talk the FIA in bringing the testing back and that it is time that someone thinks about it seriously.
“We are constructors, not sponsors: I’m no longer happy that we can’t do testing on tarmac and that you can’t give any chance for young drivers to emerge,” he said.
Montezemolo also gave some harsh comments on F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, for slamming Ferrari about requesting a clarification over the issue of Sebastian Vettel’s overtake issue during the Brazilian GP. He said that he has been taught to respect his elders
since childhood; especially when they cannot control what they say anymore. He added that sometimes old age can become incompatible with certain responsibilities.
The Ferrari boss has lashed out in reply to Ecclestone’s comment that the overtake issue was a joke and Ferrari did a wrong thing in requesting the FIA for a clarification. The team has already explained earlier that their request was not made in order to
challenge the result of the last race but rather to clear the confusions of the fans.
FIA restricted the teams to 15,000 test kilometres during the ongoing F1 season since 2009. This limit does not include the young driver testing or any other promotional event. Also, the testing can only take place on an FIA approved location. The governing
body also banned young driver tests during the race season from 2009 to 2011 but then allowed a three day driving test once a season from this year.
