Luca di Montezemolo wants Bernie Ecclestone to consider retirement – Formula 1 news
Ferrari boss, Luca di Montezemolo, has stated that it is time that F1 boss, Bernie Ecclestone, considers retirement as the era of one man controlling everything must come to an end.
“Every so often, Bernie likes to play the boss and gets involved in matters that don’t concern him: godfathers no longer exist, at least not in F1,” said Montezemolo. “He would do better to think about attracting bigger crowds and more youngsters, and to
discuss more with the television stations and the media. We are approaching a time when we need to think about the future, because all eras must inevitably come to an end. It's not a case of replacing Bernie and in fact I do not like doing to others what I
would not want to happen to myself.”
He told that the era where one man is looking after all the areas of the sport must come to an end and in the future a team should be given the responsibility of controlling all the different areas. He insisted that it was in the hands of the owner of the
sport, CVC capital partners to decide in this matter.
Montezemolo admitted that there is no doubt that Ecclestone has done significant things for this sport but all eras come to an end and similarly he will be facing the same situation in about a decade but he will be 75 not 82 years old.
Ecclestone and Montezemolo have been at odds with each other ever since Sebastian Vettel’s overtake issue following the result of the season ending Brazilian Grand Prix. Ferrari had requested the FIA for a clarification after the controversy had arisen to
which the governing body had briefly replied that there was no case to answer. Ecclestone had given his own opinion stating that Ferrari had become desperate and the whole issue was a joke.
Meanwhile, Ecclestone has said that he will retire when he thinks he can no longer deliver the way he should. He admitted that F1 is like his baby and when he will decide to retire he will have to find a babysitter for it.
