Luca di Montezemolo wants Sebastian Vettel in Ferrari – Formula 1 news
Ferrari president Luca di Montezemolo has said that he wants the three-time world champion, Sebastian Vettel in his team in the future.
Red Bull Racing driver, Vettel has successfully claimed his third consecutive championship title in this season. Although, he had a very tough competition with Fernando Alonso of Ferrari, but he performed impressively well in the last few races and successfully
won the title by just three points from the Spaniard.
Montezemolo has recently said that they have an eye on the veteran German driver and may take him as their race driver in the future. However, he insisted that they will only take Vettel into their team if Alonso was to leave for some reason as they can’t
have two dominating drivers at the same time.
“Vettel is a future potential Ferrari driver,” Montezemolo told Auto Motor and Sport. “If Alonso was to retire tomorrow, for whatever reason, then I want Vettel.”
Nonetheless, he praised the performance of Alonso who fought exceptionally well in this season even with an uncompetitive car. Additionally, he said that he is really happy with the two-time world champion who is more than just a driver.
“I’m incredibly happy with him,” Montezemolo agreed. “He is more than just a driver.”
In addition, he said that it is very difficult to have Alonso and Vettel in the team at the same time.
“Alonso and Vettel, that would be difficult,” he said. “When you have the best driver in the world, you must offer optimal conditions.”
Besides, he said that Michael Schumacher told him about Vettel when he was very young and asserted that the seven-time world champion was right about his compatriot.
“He’s young,” Montezemolo started, “he has his feet on the floor, and he has an indomitable will to win. Schumacher made me aware of him years ago because he knew him from his karting years. I must say, Michael was right.”
The Italian team is the oldest and the most successful team in the sport and it will be very exciting to see the youngest triple world champion behind the wheel of Ferrari car in the future.
