Luca di Montezemolo wants the team to take inspiration from Fernando Alonso – Formula 1 news
Luca di Montezemolo has asked his team to use the inspiration from Fernando Alonso’s win as a “starting point” to a successful season.
Alonso secured a surprising win for the Ferrari out of nowhere, the weather conditions helped but credit has to be given to the Spaniard for some brilliant driving. The Scuderia team has been under tremendous pressure as the F2012 has been marred by technical
difficulties.
Ferrari technical director Pat Fry has also said that the team is facing difficulties with the new car and needs a lot of work to bring to the competitive level of the leaders of the grid.
Team principal Stefano Domenicali and Alonso have both maintained that the win will not mean that pressure will be mounted on the team to come up with similar performances throughout the season. It was a great achievement but a lot of work is required on
the car still.
Ferrari president Montezemolo though has been very insistent that the team should be able to come up with improved performances as the team faced a poor 2011 season.
“This victory must not be an isolated one, but rather the starting point to a season in which we want to be the best,” Montezemolo told Ferrari employees at Maranello. “To succeed, we have to be the best in our daily work in every sector. We know there is
a lot to do, but we also know it's not impossible.”
Ferrari’s woes are not limited to the car, as their other driver Felipe Massa has been in a lean patch for the previous two seasons. While he maintains that he has no issue with his nerves during races but it is clear that he has not performed to his potential.
Montezemolo has even given him a warning that if Massa is not able to perform in the 2012 seasons he will be on the verge of losing his race seat. A threat it is looking more realistic with each passing race as Massa continues to disappoint.
It will be interesting to see how Ferrari progressing in the season banking on the win Alonso has delivered for the team.
