Luca di Montezemolo warns Felipe Massa once more before the season begins – Formula 1 news
Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo has once again warned Felipe Massa that he must perform in the 2012 season.
Montezemolo reiterated that Massa will have to do something significant in order to secure his race seat with Ferrari beyond 2012. Massa has been under immense pressure since his horrid 2011 showing.
The Brazilian has had his issues since his return from the head injury he sustained during a race which left him in a concussion. Although Massa has denied that the injury has had any effect on his driving but it is clear that he has not shown the same pace
as he used to.
The 2011 season was particularly bad one for him as he faced a lot of criticism over his run-ins with McLaren’s Lewis Hamilton. Both the drivers were involved in several crashes during the season and faced penalties for their on-track behaviour.
Massa ended the season placed 6th on the drivers’ championship without any Grand Prix wins to show for and scored only 118 points.
The Brazilian has said that he will perform well in the 2012 season and has even gone as far to say that he can do better than his teammate Fernando Alonso. The Italian was the main reason behind the face saving 3rd place finish for Ferrari in the constructors’
championship.
Montezemolo has been very vocal over the team’s performance in the upcoming 2012 season and has taken an aggressive approach to keep the staff on their toes to go for the wins.
“It is going to be an important year for me and whole team, 2012, this is going to be the victory year,” Massa said.
“We want to fight to get the championship back. I want to be believe in my skills and our car and this is the right thing to do. We want to see Ferrari winning as often as possible; here I feel strength, I'm focused on winning. There are plenty of positive
things in my head and I want to start in the right way and get to the end of the championship in a better way,” he added.
