The out-of-favour Borussia Dortmund striker revealed that he did not leave the club in January due to the affection from fans.
Despite being linked with a number of clubs in the January transfer window, Barrios opted to stay with reigning German champions for another six months. Barrios claimed that the affection he had seen in the past few weeks from fans changed his mind and he decided against leaving. He insisted that his complete focus would be to help the side win the Bundesliga at the end of the season and that he is not thinking of leaving even in the summer.
The striker admitted that he will fight for his place in the starting line-up and wants to cement his place in the first team.
“I stayed here because of the fans. The support they showed me last weekend made me realise that I shouldn't leave this club. I am completely focused on Borussia now, and I'm not thinking about a possible summer exit. I just want to be successful again here,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
On the other hand, Dortmund manager Jurgen Klopp expressed his delight on the player’s decision to stay at the club. He insisted that the club never persuaded the player to leave and there were no deals done.
“There were no attempts made on our part to sell him. We were very open about it all and could understand that a player of his quality considered a move given the situation. But no deal was ever done, either with http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Lucas-c22528 or with us,” he concluded.
