Lucas Duda and Daniel Murphy lead New York Mets to 7-3 win against Milwaukee Brewers-MLB Update
Left fielder Lucas Duda and second baseman Daniel Murphy spearhead the offence as the New York Mets beat the Milwaukee Brewers 7-3 at Miller Park, Milwaukee, Wisconsin on September 14, 2012 in the first game of the three match series.
Mets managed the lead in the first inning before they substantiated it in the second.
Wins have been elusive to the Mets in the last two months. Their offence has betrayed them on many occasions. Apart from David Wright and Ike Davis, most of their batters have not stepped up at the plate the way they are supposed to.
In light of this, on Friday they experienced a much improved show from their offence. Whenever runs were required, they struck hits and kept the lead intact throughout the game.
From the second inning onward, Mets were leading by two runs.
In light of the fact that the lead was not sufficient and was prone to be blown, they needed to take it to a level from where it becomes difficult for the Brewers to bounce back.
By adding three runs in the sixth, they strengthened their lead. At this stage of the game, victory became certain to some extent for the Mets.
Offensively, Duda stood out for New York. He slammed a home-run and struck two hits in four at-bats. Similarly, Murphy smacked a home-run in the game.
Jonathon Niese started for the Mets. While he completed six innings he gave up two runs and struck out five.
Mets’ manager Terry Collins takes encouragement from the fact that his team restricted Brewers successfully. The fact they are known for not committing many mistakes explains the level of effectiveness Mets had to maintain on Friday.
“They play great here, we know they play great here,” manager Terry Collins said. “They’re in the hunt. They don’t make many mistakes, so when they do, you’ve got to capitalize on it, and we did tonight.”
Victory is always good for the confidence of the team and can help the Mets maintain their momentum as they play their upcoming games. It will be interesting to see how far they can carry their level of confidence in the remainder of the regular season.
