Lucas Duda exhibits power as New York Mets brace for 2012 regular season - MLB Update
Lucas Duda showed some power as he turned out as a rare silver-lining the New York Mets can see in their 5-7 defeat to Atlanta Braves. Not just in today’s game, but he has been looking in fine touch throughout Spring Training.
Duda is one of the top contributors of homers for the Mets so far and if he continues in the same fashion in next few games, he will be real pick for opening day line-up.
Called for Major League debut way back in 2010, Duda played his first game against Atlanta Braves. Although, he was unable to impress with his composure on the plate as the Braves’ starter Tommy Hanson got him cheaply, his talent was not lost on anyone.
Apart from huge hits he can generate, he boasts extremely safe pair of hands. Everybody in the dug-out was left amazed as he latched on to a stellar slider in his very first outing as an out-fielder.
Mets drafted him in 2007 and as he went on to play the last part of 2010 season and then in 2011, Mets withheld him in the knowledge that he will one day be their top prospects. It looks as if that time is not far now. As manager Terry Collins believes,
that fruits of keeping him in the side are about to unfold and during the 2012 regular season, according to him, Duda will be one of those prime hitters that they will heavily look forward to.
“Lucas Duda is going to be a dynamic talent,” manager Terry Collins said. “Obviously he [has] power supreme. I just think he’s getting very comfortable with the fact he’s a major league player and that he belongs here and he can hit here.”
Though his Major League career record does not speak much about his credentials, many believe it is the pressure player experience at the big stage that has kept him at bay. He has come far, as he will have no hesitation going up way more than his current
batting average of .273 and OBP of .347.
With Duda connecting successful hits and David Wright, who has just returned after sustaining injury, taking more at-bats before the season, Mets will not have much problem getting runs from their batters.
