Lucas Duda shines as New York Mets defeat Texas Rangers 14-5 - MLB Update
New York Mets’ out-fielder, Lucas Duda had a notable day with the bat as he hit four RBIs including two scoring runs and went 4-for-5 with an average of .228 in the Mets’ 14-5 victory against the Texas Rangers at Rangers Ballpark in Arlington, Texas on June
25.
After this influential win, the Mets tied the three-game series 1-1.
The Mets scored three runs in the first inning of the game to get an initial 3-0 lead. Carlos Beltran drove a triple-run shot towards right-field while Jose Reyes and Willie Harris posted the first two runs. Beltran scored the third run of the inning when
Daniel Murphy hit a sacrifice fly off left-field.
In the second inning, Michael Young moved to second base but Yorvit Torrealba was grounded out to third base without taking any run. However, the Mets were persistent in extending their lead as they blasted three runs to move their lead 6-0 in the third
inning.
Beltran and Murphy both scored two runs jointly when Duda hit a double-run shot off right-field. The last run of the third inning was taken by Duda on the drive of Josh Thole towards centre-field.
On the other side, the Rangers posted their first two runs of the game in the fourth inning to cut their deficit 6-2. For the Rangers, Adrian Beltre struck a solo homer (415 feet) towards centre-field and Young homered (393 feet) to left-field at the bottom
of the fourth inning. Fifth inning was score-less for both teams.
The Mets’ starter, Jonathon Niese threw five innings with an ERA of 3.67 and gave away two runs on six hits with two earned runs. He permitted just two walks on his 94 pitches and had seven strike-outs. In the sixth inning, the Mets’ batters stepped on the
gas to smash eight runs and took a 14-2 lead.
Speaking to reporters, Niese said, “I was breathing heavy. I tried to step back. I just couldn't catch my breath. In this heat, you have to be cautious. I'm not going to miss a start.”
Ruben Tejada, Reyes, Harris, Murphy, Angel Pagan, Duda, Thole and Beltran each contributed one run individually to end the eight-run campaign. During the seventh inning, Murphy posted one run for the Rangers when Carlos Gentry reached towards second base
on an infield single. The score-board advanced to 14-3 after seventh inning.
Duda said, “You build confidence off of it, maybe knowing that you can play with these guys on a daily basis.”
In the eighth inning, the Rangers’ batters added two runs to reduce their lead 14-5 when Nelson Cruz hit a solo homer (408 feet) to left-field and Young scored the second run. Gentry popped out to second base at the bottom of the ninth inning.
