Lucas Duda’s decisive RBI helps New York Mets beat San Diego Padres 9-8 - MLB Update
New York Mets’ first baseman, Lucas Duda had a tremendous day with the bat as he went 3-for-5 with an average of .273 and hit final RBI to give the Mets a 9-8 victory against the San Diego Padres at Citi Field, New York on August 8.
At the top of first inning, the Padres got off to a quick start as they scored one run when Cameron Maybin posted a single run on the drive of Jesus Guzman towards shallow centre-field. On the other side, the Mets also added one run on the score-board to
level the game 1-1 at the bottom of the first inning.
Angel Pagan hit a solo homer (351 feet) towards right-field to keep the Mets alive. Jason Bay also hit a one-run homer (424 feet) to left-field during second inning and gave the Mets a 2-1 lead. In third inning, the Mets led off with 4-1 when David Wright
hit a two-run homer (406 feet) towards left-centre and Justin Turner posted a single run.
Fourth and fifth innings were score-less due to terrific throws of pitchers. Mets’ starter, Mike Pelfrey presented nine hits, four runs, two walks and four earned runs in his six innings pitched with an ERA of 4.53. He had just four strike-outs on his 107
pitches.
Padres’ batters tied the game 4-4 during sixth inning by adding three runs to their respective score-card. Guzman singled off right-field and Jason Bartlett put his first run for the Padres. Maybin posted second run when Orlando Hudson hit a sacrifice fly
towards left-field. The tie run for Padres was taken by Guzman when Kyle Blanks drove a double-run shot to centre-field.
In eighth inning, Padres blasted four runs to take an effective lead while the Mets were able to score two runs to shorten their lead 8-6, at the bottom of eighth inning. Hudson, Blanks, Will Venable and Luis Martinez each singled to complete a four-run
campaign for Padres. Conversely, Duda and Bay both added two collective runs to reduce the lead of their team.
Mets went ahead 9-8 by posting three runs in ninth inning. Jason Pridie, Turner and Wright each made one run to give the Mets a convincing lead. As a result, the Mets led off the four-game series 1-0.
