Lucas Duda’s home run helps New York Mets beat Atlanta Braves 3-1 - MLB Update
Left fielder Lucas Duda strikes a three-run homer as he leads the New York Mets to a 3-1 win against the Atlanta Braves at Turner Field, Atlanta, Georgia on September 28, 2012 in the first game of the three match series.
The runs coming off from both the sides in the game were through home-runs.
Surprisingly the Braves were not at their best offensively despite the fact in the last few games they have been extremely successful.
Throughout the match, they struck only four hits which speak volumes of their misery against the Mets’ starter Jonathon Niese on Friday.
Niese completed seven innings and leaked only four hits. He gave up one run and struck-out three.
Apart from him, Mets’ relievers were also impressive on the mound. They kept the Braves from scoring runs and strengthened their lead in the match.
Tim Hudson carried out the starting job for Atlanta. Before the beginning of the seventh inning, he was heading toward winning the match. However, the three-run homer he surrendered in the seventh inning ruined his chances for this.
Hudson had little support from the offence on Friday. If there were few more runs scored by the Braves, he may have earned the victory.
Duda struck a home-run out of the blue. Hudson was going smoothly and was making the task for the batters difficult when all of a sudden Duda stepped on the plate and thrashed him for a massive hit.
Lucas is Jubilant after striking against the pitcher whose throws he considers as not being easy to hammer.
"His credentials are unbelievable," Duda said. "I'm happy to do anything I can. "I was kind of nervous, two strikes. I just tried to make contact, get the ball up and it went out of the park."
In contrast to Hudson, Niese did a fairly great job. While he generally struggles at the mound, on Friday his pitches were immaculate. The win that he claimed was well-deserved for him.
Confidence of the Mets will be high after beating the Braves. They will take positives from the fact that their offence stepped up in the game.
It will be interesting to see how they can keep the Braves from bouncing back in the upcoming matches.
