Lucas Glover hopeful of retaining Wells Fargo title amid injuries
Lucas Glover is hoping to defend his title at Wells Fargo Championship this year despite of having a strange year where he suffered back-to-back injuries earlier in the year.
After his terrible accident in the Pacific Ocean where he injured his left knee when he slipped off a paddle board, Glover missed several mainstream titles on the PGA Tour and was not able to play until the middle of March this year.
He made an appearance in the Masters only ending up with a rib injury but persevered through the end of the weekend.
He said, "If it had been any other week but Augusta, I don't think I would have played. But it's pretty hard to withdraw from that one, so I played through it, and just got it fixed and feel pretty good”.
Winner of six professional events in his grizzled career, Glover turned professional in the year 2001 and made it to the PGA Tour after an impressive bid on the Nationwide Tour in 2002 earning a whopping $64,692 and finishing 67th.
Glover managed to pull 17 halfway cuts in his 26 appearances which included six top-ten and seven top-25 finishes.
Glover clinched his first PGA Tour victory at the FUNAI Classic at the Walt Disney World Resort in the year 2005 where he took over Tom Pernice Jr. by one stroke.
The highlights of his career came in the year 2009 when he won the US Open at the Bethpage Black Course (Farmingdale, New York) by two strokes over Phil Mickelson, Ricky Barnes, and David Duval.
His third PGA Tour victory came last year when he landed the star-studded Wells Fargo Championship in a Playoff against Jonathan Byrd.
Glover will now be back to defend his title at the Wells Fargo Championship and remains adamant that he has the capability to defend the title.
He added, "I think any time you come somewhere you've had success, it gives you that little bit of confidence -- even if it's been a strange year for you”.
Formerly known as Quail Hollow Championship, Wells Fargo Championship attracts some of the high-profile players on the tour and is one if the fiercely contested events on the PGA Tour calendar.
