Lucas Glover makes Shot of the day in the first round of Crowne Plaza Invitational
Lucas Glover earned the accolade of ‘Shot of the Day’ in the first round of the Crowne Plaza Invitational for chipping in a birdie on the par-4 14th, which is the most difficult hole in the Colonial Country Club.
The winner of Wells Fargo Championship, Glover stood on the rough that was on the right side of the green and chipped, while taking the third shot on the par-4 layout. The ball passed the green and dropped into the hole, while
adding the fourth birdie of the day. The player pumped his fist in the air at the magnificent shot, which he produced on the hole that was severely sloped.
The crowd cheered at the beauty of the shot that faded onto the green, while Glover wrapped the day at 1-over par 71.
Ironically, Glover started the day at a slow pace, which was in complete contrast to the way he ended the 18-hole session. The 31-year-old teed off from the front and after saving par at the opening holes, he dropped two back-to-back
shots starting at the par-3 third.
The early blow shook the player, but as a result of keeping his cool, the player hit a 3-wood on the fairway of the immediate hole, which helped him in earning a birdie. In the next hole however, Glover aimed the tee shot towards
the right side of the seventh fairway, but the ball was deflected by the opposite wind and plunged into the rough behind the bunker. The player retrieved the ball from the rough, but could not save par.
Glover netted a birdie on the following hole, but could not enjoy the edge for long, as he missed a par-putt on the closing hole and had to wrap the front nine at 2-over par 37.
The back nine was relatively better for Glover, as he caught three birdies against a double-bogey on the 13th hole and hurried to the clubhouse with above par.
While commenting on the shot of the day, Glover said that he was surprised when the ball went so close to the hole, and he couldn't believe it went in until the crowd started cheering.
