Lucas Glover set to defend his Wells Fargo Championship title- Golf News
Lucas Glover is all prepared to defend his title at the upcoming Wells Fargo Championship, slated to start from Thursday, May 3, 2012, at the Quail Hollow Country Club in Charlotte.
According to Glover, he always feels comfortable playing at Quail Hollow because of his familiarity with the course.
“Any time you have success somewhere, it breeds a little bit of confidence so I feel good when I get here,” Glover said.
“I was here last Sunday and played with some friends... probably the best round I’ve played all year. I know it was practice and it doesn’t matter and nobody cares, but just being here there’s something about it for me”.
“It’s always nice to come somewhere you love and be the defending champion,” added Glover, a three-time winner on the PGA Tour.
“I’m excited to be back and looking to try to play well and have a good defence”.
Glover has had a tough PGA Tour season so far because of the injury issues this year.
He had a paddle board accident that injured right knee ligament. As a result, he was forced to pull out of the season opener, Tournament of Champions.
In the very next tournament he played, Transitions Championship, he missed the cut after recording 70 and 75 in the opening two rounds, respectively.
Later, he made the cut in the Shell Houston Open, but failed to impress his fans, as he tied for the 82nd place on the leader board.
During the Masters Tournament, he tore an inter costal muscle that severely affected his performance, leading him to miss the cut after recording a 10-over par two-round score.
His best finish of the season came in last week’s Zurich Classic of New Orleans, where he tied for the 66th place.
Therefore, he is among the weakest contenders at Quail Hollow because of his injuries and a bad run in the tournaments he has played so far this season.
He really needs to bring some positive amendments to his game, as he appears to have lost his form, which earned him a victory last year over Jonathan Byrd, if he wants to defend his Wells Fargo title.
