Lucas Glover takes halfway lead at the Zurich Classic
Lucas Glover fired a five-under par 67, in the second round of the Zurich Classic of New Orleans to take a one-stroke lead over Boo Weekely, on Friday, April 26, 2013.
The tournament is being staged at TPC Louisiana, featuring some of the best PGA Tour players from different parts of the world, vying for a share of US$ 6.6 million prize fund.
Right from the beginning of the tournament, Glover is showing consistency in his game. He started his campaign on day one by recording four birdies in a row and reached the turn in five-under.
The back nine of the course witnessed him adding another three birdies to his scorecard, while conceding a lone bogey, to finish second on the leaderboard.
He then recorded another great start, by recording birdies on five of the first seven holes that he played. In total, he managed to drain eight birdie putts, against three bogeys, to record a 12-under par halfway score.
Glover missed the cut in three of the last four appearances that he made on the PGA Tour. According to him, the main reason behind his woes was his poor putting technique.
Talking to the reporters after finishing his second round, the 2009 US Open champion said that he was consistently working on his short game for the last two months, and his efforts have now started paying him off.
“I've been hitting it good for a couple months and finally started making some putts,” Glover said. “I mean, I was hitting it as good as I can hit it. But at the same time, if you putt poorly. ...”
“Obviously, making a lot of them to make that many birdies,” added the American, who recorded his last PGA Tour victory in 2011. “But a few hiccups today, but you get that here. You get out of position, and it's hard to make par. But luckily I've been in
position more than not. So I'm pretty pleased with my play.”
The overnight leader Ricky Barns, in the meantime, faltered for a four-over par 76, to slip down to the 36th position on the leaderboard.
