Lucas Glover will compete in the Players Championship with a beard seeing a fan page on Facebook for the beard
Lucas Glover has decided to keep his beard for the Player Championship, which is about to hit the Tournament Player Club, Sawgrass, commencing on May 12th and run through May 15th, 2011. The Wells Fargo Championship winner spoke to
the press, narrating the story of his beard.
He said that he did not grow the beard intentionally and it grew out of laziness, when he would not shave, but one day someone told him that it looked good.
Following this compliment, the American decided to play the Wells Fargo Championship with it and to his surprise, he ended up posing in front of the camera with a trophy.
He said, “I don’t know how long (I’ll keep it), to be honest with you. It was just something that cropped up in the off season out of laziness, and I thought, I’ve got to get this mess off my neck because it looks goofy, and next thing you know somebody
said it looks good so here it is”.
Few days later, one of his fans made a fan page for him on Facebook with the name, ‘The fans of PGA TOUR golfer Lucas Glover who want him to keep the beard’. 349 people liked the page and voted in favour of the beard.
Glover added that someone told him about the page and he was shocked when he saw it. He said, “I did find out (Tuesday) that my beard has a Face book page, and I don't, so it's not me”.
Following the overwhelming response from fans, Glover is hooked with the beard and he does not plan to shave it for the time being.
On the other hand, the 2009 US Open champion has been receiving some negative criticism from his friends and family. Elaborating the criticism, Glover added that he had been receiving text messages and emails suggesting that he should remove the beard.
Glover said, “I am getting some negative emails and jabs from friends. My best friend just texted me. He’s a dentist, but he said he’s in talks about Hair Club for Men and wondering if the beard was interested”.
