Lucas Matthysse loses to Devon Alexander in 10-round junior welterweight title match – Boxing news
The 28-year-old Argentinean pugilist, Lucas Matthysse, lost his battle against the American combatant, Devon Alexander, in a 10-round junior welterweight title via split-decision on Saturday.
It was a cutthroat competition that went all the way but in the end, it was Alexander who came on top to clinch victory. Both boxers gained themselves a 96-93 scorecard but the third and the final scorecard with a 95-94 score-line had Alexander’s name written
all over it.
Matthysse, who lost in front of Alexander’s home crowd of over 6,000 people, believes he won the fight. He told the media in the post-match interview that he was once again robbed and Alexander was just lucky to be a winner.
Matthysse, who has won 28 of his 31 fights including 26 by the way of a knockout, also commented on the fourth round in which he knocked down Alexander with a left hook. He said he thought it would be over now but somehow he failed.
While speaking on his inclusion, he remarked, “I gave it my all. It was a tough fight. I did the best I could and I thought I won. Once again, I was robbed. He's lucky he won the fight. I thought when I put him down, I'd finish him off but I couldn't.”
Devon ‘The Great’ Alexander, who in January 2011 lost his World Boxing Council’s title to Timothy Bradley after an accidental head butt, in the meanwhile also shared his feelings.
The 24-year-old Alexander, who is a winner of 21 of his 22 fights including 13 by the way of a knockout, admitted it was a flash knockdown which he had in the fourth round. However, he said he gathered himself and bounced back into the match.
“The knock down was a flash knock down,” Alexander said. “After that, I had to pull it out of myself to win the fight.”
Let’s see if these two men get another fight between themselves, as it would definitely be a mouth-watering repeat of Saturday’s clash.
