Lucas Renard runs down Sami Reinwein in opening round qualifier – IPP Open 2011 CH
Swede 19-year-old, Lucas Renard, made his way into the second round of the IPP Open 2011 qualifers, beating his opening round challenger, Sami Reinwein in a challenging three set match to win, 7-5, 3-6, 7-5, in an hour and 47 minutes
of hard indoor circuit match on Saturday, 19th of November 2011 at Tali, Helsinki, Finland.
Flaring up the fixture, the two 19-year-olds’ took their sides with Renard, Swede taking the first game out, 1-0. Following the Swede, Reinwein served his first game of the match, covering up the lead, 1-1, and stood to return
again.
The German made a strong start as he broke the lower ranked Swede rival in game three to lead the set 1-2, however, went down instantly and lost his serve giving away a breakpoint, 2-2. Carrying on the two rallied down games and
levelled up at 3-3, 4-4 and on 5-5.
With two more games left for a dramatic ending in the first set, Renard broke his German rival in game eleven with a startling cross-court winner, 6-5, and served out game twelve to conclude the set, 7-5, and lead the match one
set to zero.
Reinwein continued with the second set as he took the first serve and served out the opener turning down the scoreboard, 1-0. German 19-year-old made his comeback in the game as he broke his rival in game two, 2-0, and served out
his third consecutive win of the set to lead the scores 3-nil.
Renard finally won his first game of the set, however, was unable to break back and even up the scores any soon. German, on the other hand, held his service games to add winners to his side of the scoreboard, ending the set with
a spectacular finish, 6-3, and levelled up the scores 1-1.
Boiling up the fixture, the two went down to the decider set with the Swede taking out the initial game, 1-0. Reinwein continued next, mustering game two and evening up the scores, 1-1. German 19-year-old gained momentum as he
broke his rival in game three, 1-2, and followed with a service winner to lead, 3-1.
However, Renard pulled the German straight down next. Serving out game five, 3-2, the lower ranked Swede broke his rival in the sixth to level up the scores, 3-3, and followed with a service winner to lead 4-3. Tailing the Swede,
Reinwein followed with a winner to level up the score 4-4.
With a win each next, the two levelled up again holding their serves, 5-5. However, the match made a drastic turn as Renard served out game eleven of the decider and blistered the German in game twelve with a superb breakpoint
win, to end the match winning the decider, 7-5.
Through into the second stage of the qualifier round of the ATP Challenger Tour event, Renard, Swede, now moves on to play Slovakian, Andrej Martin, for the final round qualifier spot.
