Liverpool midfielder Lucas Leiva remained optimistic over his chances of taking part in the Reds pre-season preparation, and revealed that he is in the final stages of recovery from a knee injury.

The 25-year old subsequently underwent a surgery in a Brazilian hospital, with the doctors laying down the verdict that he won’t be able to make a full recovery before six months.
However Lucas, who was nevertheless seen in the stands regularly during Liverpool’s home games, unearthed that the process of his recovery was in the final lap and that being on the sidelines was not easy for him.
The injury that he picked up last year was his first major impairment during his career.
While talking to reporters, he said: “I'm in the final stage of my recovery. I've been recovering for six months.”

With Lucas at the helm, the Reds suffered only two defeats in the previous season till December, but lost their way in his absence experiencing a sequence of defeats since the turn of the year which saw them finish the league at eighth spot-their worst in
18 years.
Lucas, who has capped 123 appearances for Liverpool in total, represented his side 15 times last season.
With the next campaign set to kick-off in August, the Dourados native mentioned that he was eager to make an early return to the team, and was optimistic of being a part of the pre-season action.
He added, “I am currently in the physical stage, aiming to be back for pre-season, so that I can be back on the pitch as soon as possible.”
