Lucas di Grassi finally celebrates a victory
Finally, Lucas di Grassi has a reason to celebrate. The Virgin Racing driver won the annual charity Karting event, the International Challenge of Go-Kart Champions, in Florianopolis last weekend.
This Karting event is organised every year by the Ferrari driver, Felipe Massa, in order to raise funds for his charity work and several drivers from different series take part in the event.
The 2010’s event has been a brilliant success and included several professional racing drivers from various international and national series. This year’s event was also highly appreciated by the fans of the Brazilian driver, Massa, as he also took part
in the event. Among the other leading racers of Formula One who came up to support Massa’s cause were, the Williams driver Rubens Barrichello and Toro Rosso's Jaime Alguersuari, while some leading drivers from other series also participated in the event.
Di Grassi was seen strong right from the beginning of the race and was triumphant at the first heat on Saturday night after he underwent a very tough battle with Massa. Another man who was seen very strong during the weekend was the ex-Formula One driver
Antonio Pizzonia. However, the second round did not go very well for the racer as he retired from the race on Sunday morning. This time the IndyCar driver, Ana Beatriz demonstrated great pace on the field, leaving behind Barrichello, even though the round
was started by the later from pole position.
Nevertheless, once the two rounds ended, the Brazilian driver, di Grassi still emerged as the winner of the race. Although the aggregate of all the top four drivers, di Grassi, Massa, Barrichello and Beatriz was the same, yet di Grassi’s victory in the first
heat granted him the victory.
On the other hand, Alguersuari, the Toro Rosso driver, packed the day at sixth place, while the fifth as taken by the IndyCar driver, Tony Kanaan.
Despite having a disappointing debut 2010 season with evidently the poorest team on the grid, Virgin the driver has been able to secure his seat for the next season. The 26- year-old has not been able to score even a single point all through the season,
and hardly completed 9 out of the total 10 races. Still, he is adamant to return to the next season with a renewed form and pace and hopes to perform far better next season. Moreover, the team has also vowed to provide a better and more competitive car to
its drivers next year.
