Lucchese cruise past Piaget in 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open Championship: 11-10
Veteran Argentinean striker Adolfo Cambiaso and Jeff Blake scored five and four goals respectively and each had an assist, as Lucchese marked a solitary goal win over Piaget in the event-opening match of the 2011 Bombardier Pacific Coast Open Championship
held at the Santa Barbara Polo Club in California.
It is vital to mention here that the team of Piaget opened the game quite brilliantly with a new line-up. Lolo Castagnola was replaced with Miguel Astrada as skipper of the Piaget side. Jason Crowder and Juan Bollini scored one goal apiece in the opening
chukka. On the other hand, the defenders from Piaget showed tight game and kept Lucchese at bay in the first seven and half minutes of play.
In the second set of play, the Lucchese side cranked up their offence and notched two goals while holding Piaget scoreless. Cambiaso and his team-mate Julio Gracida scored one each and tied the knots at two-all before going into the third set of play.
The speed of the game exceeded up in the third frame where five goals were scored from the two teams. Jeff Blake opened up his muscles and scored two times while Gracida added one goal from the field effort. However, the strikers from Piaget were not ready
to accept the results. Miguel Astrada hit a couple of penalty shots and reduced the lead down to a single goal, 5-4 at the half-time.
At the start of the second half of play, the Piaget foursome started putting extra efforts in search of equaliser. Melissa Ganzi accounted for a field goal and locked the horns at five-all. In the later time, Cambiaso and Astrada exchanged one goal each
and evened the results at 6-6. However, Cambiaso didn’t want to an equalisation for going into the second last frame. The seasoned striker converted a penalty shot to maintain their lead at 7-6 with two frames left to contest.
At the start of the second last chukka, Crowder added a goal from the field to make the score level but to no avail. Blake accounted for another couple of goals and established a better position. Astrada nailed in a single goal in the last minutes but could
only reduce the advantage down to one goal, 9-8.
Legendary striker Cambiaso increased the speed of his game in the last round and marked a pair of goals of which one scored on penalty shot while other from the field. However, the team from Piaget was not ready to give-up at this occasion. Astrada served
two more goals including penalty shot and field shot and took the scoring close. However, not enough time was remaining on the clock and Lucchese rode away the field with an 11-10 win.
