Lucho Gonzalez to stay at http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 for one more season – Ligue 1 news
Reports in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 suggest that Ligue 1 giants Olympique de Marseille midfielder Lucho Guonzalez will be staying at the Stade Velodrome for one more season.
The 30-year-old had been linked with a move away from the Rhone side since the opening of the summer transfer window. However, Marseille were not able to offload the Argentine international during the entirety of the summer transfer window.
Marseille’s valuation of the midfielder was the main reason behind the club’s failure to find a club for the want-away player. les Phoceens were looking to get at least 10 million euros for Gonzalez – a price that many clubs considered too steep for the
30-year-old.
Gonzalez also wanted to leave the club this summer especially after he was home-jacked last month. The 2010/2011 Ligue 1 campaign was a forgettable one for the South American as his inconsistent performances attracted criticism from all quarters.
La Liga giants Malaga were keen on signing the influential midfielder but could not agree to terms with Marseille. Italian Serie A giants AS http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 were the latest side to show interest in the player along with AC Milan but a move never materialised.
However, it now appears that the Marseille direction is willing to hold on to the player for one more season especially after Gonzalez’s recent exploits for the Rhone-Alpes-based club. the Argentine was by far the best player on the pitch for Marseille as
Didier Deschamps’ side drew 2-2 to Sochaux in their first match of the 2011/2012 Ligue 1 campaign.
Gonzalez scored a brilliant goal in that game and also delivered a good performance in the Trophee des Champions game against Lille at Tangiers last month.
While talking to L’Equipe, chairman of the club, Vincent Labrune said, “In two matches against Sochaux and Lille, we were confirmed of what we already knew. Lucho is a great player. Closer we get to the end of August, the more difficult will it be for us
to buy a player who adds a real shape to our squad. With Lucho, we have a great relation and we can have one for one last great year.”
The news comes in as a real relief for Didier Deschamps who was keen to keep hold of his signing from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/FC-Porto-c39186 at the club. Lucho’s current form has definitely played a key role in the direction’s keenness on keeping him at the club. With Marseille looking
to win the Ligue 1 this season, keeping hold of Gonzalez would go a long way in helping Marseille win some silverware this season.
