Lucia Lassman and Edward Marks shine in swimming events – 2011 Australian State Age Championships
Lucia Lassman of Queensland (QLD) and Edward Marks of New South Wales (NSW) exceeded in the semi-finals of 50m butterfly swims in their relevant age groups on the second day of 2011 Australian State Teams Age Short Course Championships. The session completed
on September 18, at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS), Canberra.
Lassman occupied the fastest qualification seat of the butterfly swim in the Girls 13-14 years old category, by submitting a time of 27.20 seconds. She was trailed by her following swimmer, Jemma Schlicht of Victoria, who remained 0.13 seconds ahead of her
former finisher and posted a time of 27.33 seconds to enter the final.
Schlicht remained 0.60 seconds ahead of her following swimmer, Meg Bailey of NSW, who reported on the finishing wall with a third fastest timing of 27.93 seconds. Maggie Emmett of Western Australia (WA) was the fourth fastest swimmer of the event to enter
the final round, as she ended her sprint in 28.02 seconds.
Later on, Marks dominated the semi-final of equivalent event in Boys 14-15 years old class, with a timing of 25.54 seconds. He was trailed by Andrew Walker of WA, who clocked a second fastest time of 25.55 seconds for the final round. Walker managed a lead
of 0.20 seconds over his following swimmer, Max Muggeridge of QLD, as he qualified as the third best swimmer with a timing of 25.75 seconds. Nic Groenewald of Victoria (VIC) was the fourth fastest swimmer of the event, as she stayed 0.45 seconds slower than
his foregoing competitor and ended his sprint in a time of 26.15 seconds.
Next was the equivalent event in Girls 15-16 years old category, where Chris Licciardi of VIC completed her race in a time of 27.19 seconds. She was chased by Bria Throssell of WA, who was only 0.03 seconds slower than her preceding swimmer and appeared
on the wall with a timing of 27.22 seconds. The third finest spot of the butterfly discipline was claimed by Carla Buchanan of QLD, who was 0.38 seconds slower than Throssell and entered the final round with a timing of 27.60 seconds. Buchanan was followed
by her team-member, Megan Gianotti of QLD, who completed her swim in 27.87 seconds.
In the meantime, Andrew Digby of QLD conquered the finest qualification spot of equivalent event in Boys 16-17 years old category, by finishing his swim in a time of 24.54 seconds. He was followed by NSW’s Hugo Morris and QLD’s Regan Leong, who qualified
as second and third finishers with timings of 24.68 and 24.96 seconds, respectively.
In addition, these participants will face each other in the final rounds, where the top-two will be awarded medals and accolades.
