Lucian Bute-Danny Green projected for 2011
President of Groupe Sportscene Inc. and InterBox, Jean Bedard, has confirmed that the top choice future opponent for IBF super middleweight champion Lucian Bute is IBO cruiserweight king Danny Green.
Bedard would be looking to schedule a fight for 2011, provided Green defeats opponent BJ Flores on 17 November, and Bute defeats Jesse Brinkley 15 October in Montreal.
He clarified the two would meet at a catch-weight. "[Danny Green] is one of the first names on our list," Bedard said. "But obviously he will have to accept a change in weight class."
Speculations abound that Bute may move to light heavyweight soon, in preparations for a future contest against unified champion and fellow Montrealer Jean Pascal among others.  However, a fight with Pascal
will ultimately be down the road as he’s already booked with Bernard Hopkins on December 18 in Quebec City.  As well, Pascal is required to take on a rematch with Chad Dawson due to an earlier contractual clause after the first bout.
Other plans for Bute may include remaining in the super middleweight division to challenge the winner of Showtime’s Super Six tournament.  The winner of the tournament will be the WBA and WBC super middle
champion, which would entail a mega-fight for Bute.  Bute is a big home draw but apart from three major victories (against William Joppy, Sakio Bika and Edison Miranda) has yet to fulfil the prophesy surrounding his name.
Green is best known for his first round knockout of Roy Jones Jr., a fight that many think should have sent the latter into retirement.  Green has three losses, but has never been knocked out.
In his last bout he took on Paul Briggs in a contest that remains controversial due to Briggs apparently being knocked out by an innocuous jab that grazed the top of his head.  Initially Green accused
Briggs of throwing the fight, as betting odds mysteriously plunged hours before the fight, seriously calling the affair into question.  Bute is looking to defend his crown and assert his dominance.
