Lucian Bute: I waited and strived hard for five long years to become a Canadian citizen– Boxing News
Lucian Bute, the incumbent International Boxing Federation (IBF) super middleweight champion, recently shared his views on officially becoming a Canadian citizen and said that he has been waiting and preparing for this auspicious moment for the last five
years adding that he felt being a Canadian from the very first moment he put his foot on the Canadian soil.
According to the details, Bute, who originally hails from Romania, was conferred the prestigious Canadian citizenship in a ceremony held at St-Dorothy Elementary School which was also attended by 29 other newly inducted Canadians.
The oath taking ceremony took place under the supervision of Judge Gilles Duguay and the Romanian champion Lucian was accompanied by Jean Bedard, President InterBox, Stephan Larouche - his head coach and others.
The current world number two super middleweight, Lucian, said that he anxiously waited for this event and strived hard to be a part of his adopted home country Canada adding that he felt from the very beginning that he is an integral part of the Canadian
state and its people.
The Romanian who is widely known as ‘Le Tombeur’, arrived at the Quebec City of Canada in 2003 and since then has not only represented Canada in the sport of Boxing but also took part in various literary programs.
Lucian took French language courses and grabbed a Masters degree in Sports management from Romania to easily merge in the Canadian society. In addition the 32-year-old champion took English language classes as well to get fluent hence altogether weeding
out the verbal communication issue.
The southpaw who has successfully defended his gold against nine challengers, while sharing his thoughts said, “I just experienced one of the most important moments of my life. I have been preparing for this day for the last 5 years. I felt like a true Quebecker
and Canadian long ago, but today I am very proud to obtain my Canadian Citizenship. My origins are Romanian, but it is important to me to implicate myself fully in my adopted Country of Canada. I am very lucky to have been received so well in this Country
since I set foot here for good in 2003.”
Lucian Bute is currently scheduled to undergo a strenuous six-week training session and will take on Carl Froch, the current world number three super middleweight, on May 26, 2012 at Nottingham Arena situated in Nottingham, Nottinghamshire, United Kingdom.
