Lucian Bute believes he will beat Carl Froch despite hostile crowd – Boxing News
Lucian Bute is scheduled to defend his IBF super-middleweight championship against Carl Froch on 26 May in Nottingham. Since it will be Froch’s hometown, Bute will be facing a hostile crowd. However, unbeaten Bute believes that once he is in the ring with
Froch, the crowd’s reaction will not really matter. According to Bute, Froch, who has never lost a fight in his hometown, will enjoy the supportive crowd yet he will lose.
In his recent interview, Bute was asked about his sentiments regarding Froch’s hometown advantage. The Montreal-based pugilist answered, “The public will give him positive energy, that's true. But in the ring, it's going to be just me and him. Obviously,
the crowd will be all pumped up if he hits me, but I've been expecting that ever since I agreed to the fight. I've worked hard leading up to this and I'm going to step into the ring feeling such extraordinary confidence.”
Bute has been criticised by many for not being able to fight outside his hometown. He has remained unbeaten yet he is honoured for his achievements, instead criticised. Therefore, this bout is important for Bute, as it will get him the glory he deserve if
he wins.
When asked about Bute, Froch said, “The fact he hasn't fought anyone (of note) doesn't mean he isn't an elite boxer and that he'll never beat the best. This is a big test for him. It's a fight where a lot of questions will be asked — and I'm the one who's
going to be asking them.”
It should be noted here that Froch has remained unbeaten in his hometown. He holds the record of being the winner every time he has entered the ring in his hometown.
Froch further said that Bute needs to be sharper and more focused this time as the crowd will not be supportive and he might lose concentration. Furthermore, Froch believes that this is the biggest test of Bute’s career and he needs to pass it to be recognized
among the best pugilists of today.
If Bute is the best, he needs to prove it this time.
