Lucian Bute gets approval to resume training – Boxing News
Lucian Bute, who was suffering with a foot infection, has now been cleared to resume training by a foot specialist in Florida. Therefore, as planned, Bute will be heading towards his title defence against Carl Froch scheduled to be held on May 26.
This will be the Montreal hero’s tenth title defence. The event will be held at Nottingham, England. According to Interbox, “Lucian Bute has been bothered by an infection in his foot since last Saturday. However, the condition is improving and InterBox and
Lucian Bute are confident that Lucian will be able to fight according to schedule. He will meet with doctors again later this week to ensure that the foot is healing according to schedule.”
On the other hand, Bute said, “For me it's the right time to come away from home and defend my belt and in my heart I believe I will be victorious.”
He added that he has been criticized over the fact that he has never defended his title away from his home but this time he will be fighting in Froch’s hometown. He further said that when Joe Calzaghe made the brave attempt of fighting away from home, he
finally earned the respect he deserved and that he himself is looking forward to do the same.
Carl Froch currently stands with 28 wins, 2 losses and 20 knockouts in his portfolio, whereas Bute has bagged 30 wins, 0 losses and 24 knockouts throughout his career to date. Froch’s last fight was against Andre Ward last year, which Froch lost via decision.
Ward defeated Froch in a title unification bout part of the Super Six World Boxing Classic final in December.
The loss came quite heavy on Froch, who was being considered among Britain’s emerging superstars.
Bute got his foot infected during his training camp in Florida. The news had spread like wildfire with many thinking that the bout against Froch is in jeopardy. However, now it seems like everything is back to normal and Bute will resume training to get
himself ready for the big day. It is a big bout for Bute who needs to prove his capabilities away from home.
