Lucian Bute wants a rematch against Carl Froch – Boxing News
After suffering a knockout defeat against Carl Froch earlier this year, Lucian Bute wants to avenge his humiliation by challenging the Briton once again.
“I spent the last few weeks reflecting about what went wrong, what happened, and the only thing that is crystal clear in my mind is that I want my rematch with Carl Froch as soon as possible,” said Bute in a recent interview, reflecting over his performance
against Froch.
Bute lost his title to Froch when the fight was stopped in the fifth round. It was Bute’s first ever title defence match outside his hometown and he lost. The circumstances became pretty embarrassing for him, while Froch enjoyed a great comeback victory
following his loss to Andre Ward last year.
“That was not the real Lucian Bute in that Nottingham ring on 26 May,” added Bute.
Froch has accepted Bute’s rematch challenge but wants to go head to head with another opponent first. According to Froch, he will fight Bute in his hometown next year.
Froch currently wants to fight Mikkel Kessler this fall as a rematch for their last encounter.
In his recent interview, Froch also spoke about Amir Khan’s humiliating defeat to American Danny Garcia on July 14 at the Mandalay Bay Resort & Casino.
Froch believes Khan’s career is over and the Briton should resign. According to Froch, Khan has lost thrice to fighters who were never considered to be in the top spot. He believes it is about time for Khan to hang up his gloves.
Froch reflected over his loss to Ward, saying it damaged his career but he made a decent comeback against Bute. However, Froch did admit that if he had lost to Bute, he would have hung up his gloves straight away.
Froch is not yet scheduled for a match this year. Even though he wants to take on Kessler, the fight is not yet confirmed. If Froch survives Kessler, he will be defending the title against Lucian Bute next year in Canada.
On the other hand, Bute has his eyes on Froch and probably he will not be fighting any other opponent before their rematch.
