Luciano Moggi has blasted Juventus sporting director, Giuseppe Marotta, after a disappointing season from the Italian giants. Moggi, who occupied the same post from 1994 to 2006, insisted that Marotta should leave the club after the dismal campaign as it
is unacceptable for a club of the Juventus’ stature to be struggling miserably in the league.
The Turin giants are currently seventh on the Serie A table with 57 points with one game to go in the season. They have not qualified for next season’s UEFA Champions League and harbour slim hopes of making to UEFA Europa League.
Moggi refused to blame Coach Luigi Del Neri for the poor form since January and called for the director to step down. He stated that he had predicted that Juve would not have a great season and would end up with a mid-table finish, and he has been proven
correct.
The Italian revealed that the Old Lady did not have the quality and depth in the squad and injuries to some of the main players also affected the campaign.
“I said at the start of the season that the team would finish in seventh or eighth and I’ve been proved right. The quality of the squad was very low. Juventus have had an inconspicuous season, one also affected by injuries to important players at the wrong
time,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The former general director criticized Marotta for his failures and insisted that he should take blame for the disappointments this season. He also admitted that the club needs to sign more players this summer in order to compete for the title in the next
campaign.
“That’s also because if he has failed, then Marotta has failed even more. Therefore, it is the director who should be shown the door first. The squad needs renewing. The defence and the midfield are priorities. Almost all of the players signed last summer
need to be sold,” he concluded.
The Old Lady has a difficult last fixture of the campaign against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Napoli-c40003 at Stadio Olimpico in Turin and will hope to win it and end the dismal season on a high.
