Zenit St. Petersburg head coach, Luciano Spalletti, has warned his side to be careful in the upcoming Russian Premier League tie against Kuban Krasnodar at Petrovsky stadium by highlighting their 1-1 draw against the same opposition
from last month.
Though the St. Petersburg conceded the opening goal of the crunch league tie during the first half, they managed a draw by scoring a late equalizer. Spalletti has urged his side to work harder for the upcoming match and assured
the fans of altering the situation this time around.
The Russian Cup winner went on to praise the Kuban manager, Dan Petrescu, admitting that the Romanian national has given a lot of confidence to the Russian outfit since joining them in 2009.
Spalletti said that Petrescu has a swift winning record as a player and now he is proving that he is a decent manager. The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Chelsea-c38786 player promoted Kuban from the Russian First division to the Russian top division in his
debut season.
Though Kuban ended the second league round on a high, they failed to find the consistency that made them a real threat to their counterparts for a top-four finish during the third league round. As things stand, they are at the
eighth spot and trail the European spot by 8 points.
“Dan Petrescu demonstrated that he is a great coach after creating such a decent team and it is not just about the players that show quality football, the team wants to win every single match. They have strong players who can play
defensively by using the free space in front and they successfully operate in the counterattacks.” The former Udinese manager was quoted as saying.
Speaking on the upcoming summer transfer window, Spalletti admitted that Zenit need to strengthen themselves almost in every department. He revealed that the St. Petersburg club lacked enough quality for UEFA Champions League football.
“We need a couple of defenders, midfielders and a couple pair of attackers with different characteristics.” Spalletti concluded.
