  1. 1. Keep a dream journal.  Remembering your dreams is essential, and writing them down immediately after you wake up will improve your dream recall.

    2.  Plan your sleeping times.  There are certain times during your sleeping pattern when you're more likely to lucid dream - for example, wake up and walk around or read for about a half an hour, and then go back to sleep for about two hours.  In those two hours you're more likely to lucid dream.

    3.  Do "state testing" during the day.  State testing means asking yourself throughout your day, "Am I dreaming?"  And seriously prove to yourself that you're awake.  The main way to do this is to look at something, look away, and look at it again.  For example, look at a face, a clock, some writing or a road sign, your surroundings.  When you're awake, these things have a logical continuity, but they don't when you're dreaming (faces change, numbers on the clock doesn't make sense, writing changes, surroundings are out of place)  The idea behind "State testing" is that if you do it enough when you're awake, you'll start to do it in your sleep, and when you do, you'll notice these irregularities which are called "dream signs."  There are many "dream signs" and a few more examples are seeing people who are dead, seeing celebrities, seeing people in odd places (your cousin who lives in Barcelona is right next to you or something), seeing deceased pets.

There are quite a few books on the subject, just look them up on amazon or powells.

    Good luck!
