Lucie Hradecka and Irina Falconi head-to-head in the qualifying draw of 2011 Sony Ericsson Open
Czech Lucie Hradecka, seventh seed here, ousted Beatrice Capra of America who was a wild card entrant into the tournament. Hradecka outplayed her contender in two straight sets 6-3, 6-1 at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open.
In their first ever head to head on the court both players had an average kick off to the game with Czech slightly better than her opponent.
Hradecka hit a single ace and served 57 per cent on target and managed to convert 54 per cent of points on them. Whereas Capra hit 52 per cent of first serves correctly and managed to a win a meager 31 per cent from them.
Capra did not counterattack with Hradecka emerging victorious with an easy win 6-3.
The second set did not follow the same suit as far as converting serves into points was concerned. Capra won 75 percent of her first serves whereas Hradecka once again took the match by winning a whopping 80 percent on her first serves enroute to a breadstick win in the second set.
Hradecka now moves on ahead to play Americna Irina Falconi in the second round of the qualifying draw later in the event.
Falconi outplayed Sandra Zahlavova of Czech Republic in three straight sets 4-6, 6-1 and 6-3 in almost two hours.
The first set saw both opponents playing equally well.
Zahlavova hit 68 per cent of the first serves and won 62 per cent of points from them. Whereas Falconi managed to hit 55 per cent of her first serves on target and won 48 per cent of points from them. Zahlavova capitalized on her 86 per cent break point opportunities and won the set 6-4.
The second set saw the Czech landing in with 50 per cent of first serves and managing to win equal per cent of points from them. But now it was American’s Forte to have a better conversion rate then her opponent. She managed to win 67 per cent of points from her first serves and that handed her the set with a breadstick win.
Following her winning momentum from the second set to the final she landed in with three aces and hit 74 per cent of first serves on target and won 71 per cent of points. In comparison Zahlavova’s conversion rate proved out to be worse once again as she only managed to won a meager 55 per cent.
In a tough battle Falconi managed to clinch a 6-3 win for herself.
