Lucie Hradecka and Timea Bacsinszky move into the second round at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open
Lucie Hradecka of Czech Republic started off her campaign in fine fashion as she defeated Chan Yung-Jan in straight set 7-5, 7-5 on Wednesday in her opening match at the 2011 Sony Ericsson Open in United States.
Hradecka played aggressively right from the start. She made the crucial serve break in the opening set and held on to her serve game to lead the set score 1-0. She then continued with the same momentum and broke the challenger
once more in the second set to seal the match 7-5, 7-5.
The Czech displayed exceptional tennis skills throughout the contest and tested her opponent’s temperament and techniques with her strong ground play. With her attacking approach she forced the challenger into making mistakes on
several occasions and won crucial points. Hradecka’s defence was decent as well as she saved a fair number of points.
Although Chinese Yung-Jan put up a brave show, she committed a fair number of unforced errors and was unable to penetrate her opponent’s game. The 21 year old failed to stop the flow of points against her and hence paid the price.
Hradecka’s first serve conversion was excellent and she converted an impressive percentage of the points on her first serve. She was also the more accurate of the two players when it came to the return games, executing her shots perfectly.
The Czech has been doing well on the tour since the start of this season with her best performance coming at 2011 Memphis where she reached the semifinals just over a month ago. However, she has been criticized immensely for not
living up to the expectations in big matches. Ranked 71 in the WTA ranking, Hradecka will certainly be looking to up her game play before she takes on top players here. Her second round opponent will be Hradecka world number 9 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus.
In another match Swiss Timea Bacsinszky eased past Vesna Manasieva of Russia in straight sets 6-3, 6-2 to reach the second round at the Sony Ericsson Championships.
Bacsinszky dominated her opponent right from the start. She broke the serve in the seventh game of the first set and then held on to her advantage to take the first set 6-3.
The Swiss tennis-pro played wonderful tennis in the second set and made the serve break twice to establish firm control over the situation. Bacsinszky won the set 6-2 to complete a dictating victory in just over an hour. Manasieva
on the other hand played well in the match to her credit but fell short in certain areas of the game. Bacsinszky next opponent will be Dominika Cibulkova who received a bye into the second round.
