Lucie Hradecka outshines Garbine Muguruza to enter round two – Internationaux de Strasbourg 2013
Czech star, Lucie Hradecka, stomped over the Spanish challenger, Garbine Muguruza, in straight sets at the Internationaux de Strasbourg 2013 on Tuesday.
She penned down a 6-4, 6-3 success against the Spaniard at this WTA International level tournament taking place in Strasbourg, France.
The Czech showed brilliant tennis to overpower Muguruza at this clay court tournament.
Hradecka stormed into this match as she drew the first blood in the opening game and took the initial lead. The Czech fired angled shots and slid her entire serves with conviction. As a result, Hradecka managed to bag the opener with a 6-4 win.
Ranked 112th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Hradecka carried her rhythm in the following set. She got the much-needed break in the opening game again and took the initial lead. The Czech swiftly pocketed her entire serves and cashed another break chance in
the last game, eventually sealing the set by winning six games to three.
On the whole, the 28-year-old recorded a lower first serve share of 51 per cent as opposed to her rival’s 65 per cent and smashed only three aces. However, she incredibly took 25 out of 28 points on it and ruled the match.
The Czech awaits the winner of an all-American encounter between sixth seeded Christina McHale and Lauren Davis.
The second seed, Tamira Paszek, also bowed out of the competition. She bowed out to the local wild card entrant Virginie Razzano in straight sets earlier that day.
The Austrian seed barely did anything in the opening set and suffered a breadstick. She lost her opening serve and fell at 0-3. Apart from coming on the score sheet in the fourth game, Paszek lost her serve again and endured a 1-6 loss.
Paszek showed some resistance in the proceeding set. She lost her opening two serves but snatched her breaks back, eventually levelling the scores in the sixth game. The Austrian exchanged another break but lost the last two games which cost her the match.
The wild card local starlet will move on to face Sweden’s Johanna Larsson in the proceeding round. Larsson rallied past Czech Republic’s Petra Cetkovska in a three-set mouth-watering battle to advance.
