Lucie Hradecka receives a straight sets upset by Mallory Burdette – US Open 2012
27-year-old Czech tennis professional, Lucie Hradecka, received a straight sets upset at the hands of the local challenger, Mallory Burdette and summed up her 2-6, 4-6 loss in the second round of the US Open Grand Slam Championships
held on the hard courts of Queens in New York, United States.
Ranked 69th in the WTA Premier Rankings, Hradecka displayed considerably poor performance since the start of the initial set. She could not battle past her rival’s powerful serves and failed to edge
past her in any segment of the competition. In comparison to that, the American underdog carried the game with her assertiveness and annihilated her rival at every point. She successfully clinched all the games in a row, marking the opening set with a 6-2
score line.
The world number 252 indicated her excellent run of form and had a high first serve percentage of 81. Fortunately, she bagged all the 13 of 13 points and secured two of four serve breaks. On the other hand, the Czech tennis
professional converted 14 of 25 points and faced her biggest setback when she was not able to pocket even a single break point.
In the next set, the Czech participant was unable to hold her initial serve and couldn’t win a single game. Burdette seemed a very strong contender against her opponent. She had a highly commendable pace, as she jumped forward
to mark her 3-1 lead in the set.
The right-hander Czech gradually gained her lost tempo and aimed to square the scores. Burdette picked the lead and nudged her rival stamping her 6-4 win on the score line. In the decider the American participant managed
to secure one of the three break points, converting 18 of 26 first serve points. Nonetheless, Hradecka was unable to nail down even a single break point in the entire set but managed to snatch 18 of 33 points in the closing set.
Burdette will have to face a tough competition in the third round against the third seeded Russian beauty, Maria Sharapova. She had previously won with outstanding straight sets, 6-0, 6-1 lead against the Spanish Lourdes
Domínguez Lino.
