The Borussia Monchengladbach manager admits it will be a tough task to qualify for the UEFA Champions League at the end of the season.
Lucien Favre has expressed his desire to achieve a European berth at the end of this campaign and remained hopeful that the side will emulate performances from the first-half of the season.
The manager hailed his side for surpassing all expectations in the first-half this season, especially after having avoided relegation in the previous campaign. He showed delight at his team’s overall performance this season and
wished to achieve something of note at the end, considering the impressive displays thus far.
Favre feels that other clubs such as Bayern Munich, Schalke and Dortmund will be stronger compared to the first half, and his team might find it difficult to dislodge them off their positions from the table. Therefore, he wants
the fans to remain patient and enjoy whatever Gladbach are able to achieve by the end of this campaign.
While talking to official FIFA website, the manager further mentioned:
"It's going to be hard, if not impossible, to improve. Fourth place is already a miracle. Avoiding relegation last summer, which we only managed via the play-off, is already a mini-sensation. We must not forget that this very same
team avoided relegation by a hair's breadth and now they have 33 points."
The Foals will restart their Bundesliga campaign on Friday, January 20, against Bayern Munich. The side will be looking to complete a double over the Munich giants after they defeated the Reds by a slender 1-0 margin at the Allianz-Arena
on the opening day of the season.
The manager is certainly not rating his side as favourite against the Bavarian giants but still fancies his chances owing to the home advantage.
"Our team has not lost any condition during the winter break. Bayern are certainly stronger than they were on the first day of the season, but we are also stronger than we were at the start," Favre concluded.
The Foals are currently fourth on the league standings with 33 points from 17 games, four points adrift of the current leaders, Bayern Munich, and one behind Borussia Dortmund and Schalke.
