Luck matters the most to help Indianapolis Colts forget and forgive miserable past – NFL Feature
The Indianapolis Colts’ first win of the season came in second game, something for which they had waited for 13 games.
No taunting, this shows the team has moved forward from the past season, whether they have forgotten or forgiven it is a different question altogether, but very difficult to answer.
Owner Jim Irsay immediately sacked everyone who could become a heritage of the team's miserable recent past – with 16 games played and only two won. The clean-sweep apparently has not stopped return of the disturbing memories of the season.
The owner admitted it was the worst nightmare of his career, although he did not lose hope. He has maintained a composed posture throughout despite the fact that his rebuilding behaviour was too rash to forgive anyone.
He even did not forgive quarterback Peyton Manning who had led the team to many glories in the past. So he let him go, too, to get rid of everything that could remind him of the season 2011 in the future.
How Colts are going to do this season will be determined at the end of it, although they certainly look to improve the record to an extent.
Their start, however, refreshed the memorable last season for the owner and other members of the organisation. They started the season with a defeat, the same way they had ended the last season.
This put the owner into the limelight again, with a number of fingers directly pointing out at him for the blame of the continued miserable form of the Colts. The team’s fans particularly fear the owner’s decision of leaving Peyton Manning will have some
serious repercussions.
Somehow they managed to pull off their first victory of the season much to surprise of everyone in the second game but went down again. Just like the past the only hope for the team is again a quarterback, rookie Andrew Luck.
Luck since arrival in Indianapolis has thrived on hype of expectations, hopes and wishes. His arrival is quite different to his predecessor Manning's when he joined the Colts in 1998. At that time, the Colts were not as miserable as they were at the time
of Luck’s arrival.
Now Luck is their saviour, to help the side to forget the past. The pressure of the winless past is so much that even Luck has started feeling a sense of guilt, as if he was a part of it. Even if he excuses himself that he has nothing to do with what happened
to the Colts a season earlier, the Colts will not excuse him if he does not help them to overcome the trauma.
So, Luck matters the most this year. No pun here but the Colts do need Luck to work out for them to erase one bad season from their memories.
