is luck really based on skill?

  1. yes and no. a skillful person will usually win more and more often, thus appearing to be "luckier" to the lay person. However, a skillful person can also make a mistake or a bad decision and win...this is luck.

    Also, if you think about it, a truly skillful person knows the difference between luck and skill. Therefore, yes, the skillful person is probably the only one who realizes they got lucky. So, in this sense, yes, true luck only occurs in the presense of great skill.

    and then, you can get lucky and be skillful at the same time, which is just BS and those people should die. :)

  4. One thing I can tell you about luck in gambling, such as Blackjack, Poker, and sports betting, is pretty simple.

    I find that the more I learn about game, the more information, facts, data, statistics, and the more I study this information, the luckier I get.

    So maybe some luck comes from skill.
