Luckarack convincingly defeated his opponents in the Jim Kostoff Stakes at Fairplex Park on 11 September
The 3-year-old colt, Luckarack, landed the $50,000 sprint for 3-year-olds on 11 September, 2011, when he posted a win in the Jim Kostoff Stakes at Fairplex Park.
Trained by Doug F. O’Neill for owners Mr. and Mrs. Larry D. Williams, the 3-year-old son of Lucky Pulpit has had a mixed 2011 season.
His good run came in between May and June, when the colt ran two races over a distance of six furlongs, both races on Hollywood Park’s turf course.
These two races were optional claimers, and the first at Hollywood Park was Luckarack’s first win of the season on 5 May, 2011.
Luckarack under jockey J Talamo made his second start on dirt, cutting back in distance, the colt romped past his opponents when turning for home, covering the six furlong distance in 1 minute and 8.57 seconds, downing Dancing at Dark and Aqua Fever, who
finished second and third, respectively.
The second optional claimer on Hollywood Park’s turf course resulted in the same manner, as Luckarack took the scalp of Dancing at Dark yet again to cover six furlongs this time in 1 minute and 9.19 seconds.
Luckarack was then opted for the Del Mar meet, where he started his Del Mar season in the Real Good Deal under same jockey, J Talamo.
Luckarack was valiant in defeat, as he finished second, but not before putting up a raging fight Chiloquin who in the end got the better of Luckarack and won the race by covering the seven furlong distance in 1 minute and 22.45 seconds.
In the Jim Kostoff Stakes, jockey Agapito Delgadillo, who rode Luckarack, saved ground in the beginning, but got first run on the far turn.
The pair got the lead when they entered the stretch and they weren’t disputed for it thereafter, as they comfortably ran on to hit the wire in 1 minute and 18.03 seconds.
Luckarack defeated odds-on C J Russell by 4 ½ lengths. Pedroza rode C J Russell and exchanged words with Christian Santiago-Reyes.
Pedroza blamed Reyes for ruining his chances for a winner, when on the first turn C J Russell got eliminated, because according to Pedroza, Reyes squeezed Road Ready inside a tight spot which resulted in C J Russell going out.
