Lucky bamboo help!!!

Question

My lucky bamboo turned yellow and shriveled up to the sprout leaves or whatever. I cut the still green leaves off and put them in water. Will it live and can I keep it in my freshwater fishtank?

Sorry - without actually being able to see it, it sounds dead to me. Sounds like the best thing to do would be to buy some new bamboo - fortunately it's not expensive stuff.
