Lucy Brown, Amy Bowtell proceed into the quarterfinal – Loughborough Challenger 2011
The two compatriots to clash against each other in the second round of the AEGON Pro-Series Loughborough Challenger 2011 were fourth seeded Lucy Brown and unseeded Emma Devine. The fourth seeded Briton had managed to whitewash
Devine in straight sets of 6-3, 6-3.
It was a lopsided victory for the fourth seed and as she powered through the opening set, she set the pitch for the second. After winning the service toss Devine had opted to go first and she got off to a poor fault as she was
unable to hold her service game.
Lower ranked Devine was only able to bag 33 percent of her second service points which cost her the opening set. Moreover, she had a weak defence and was only able to save a 50 percent of her breakpoints, which was a poor percentage
when compared to Brown, who had saved a walloping 80 percent of her breakpoints.
Nonetheless Brown managed to bag the opening set by not only capitalizing on a 60 percent of her breakpoints won but also with a great return which assisted her in attaining an excellent 60 percent of her total return points in
the opening set.
During the second set neither of the players had smashed an ace and instead both had double faulted. However, Brown had taken a notch higher on her serve and accomplished a smacking 70 percent of her total service points. Along
with an average return, she managed to clog a 56 percent of her total points won in the second set.  The fourth seeded Briton had managed to secure a berth in the quarterfinal of the event.
In the other match that was taking place simultaneously to the first one on the DM court; sixth seeded Irish Amy Bowtell defeated American Caitlin Whoriskey in straight sets of 6-2, 6-3 on Thursday the 10th of November
2011.
The first set was hands down victory for the sixth seeded Irish and although she hit only 53 percent of her first serves on target, she managed to accomplish a 80 percent of her first service points. Moreover, she had bagged a
75 percent of her second return points which elevated her total return points in the opening set.
In addition, she had capitalized on three out of six breakpoints won and with almost twice as many points as her adversary’s, she managed to clog the opening set by restricting her adversary to only two games in the set.
After taking a beating in the opening set, Whoriskey pulled up her socks and had managed to target 76 percent of her first serves but was only able to bag a 56 percent of her first serves. Nonetheless, she had also improved her
return but she was unable to match her opponent and eventually lost the second set as well.
This time Bowtell clinched the second set by restricting her opponent to only three games and she sealed her victory of the set and the match.
The two winners; Amy Bowtell and Lucy Brown will clash against each other in the quarterfinal of the tournament.
