Luis Enrique accepts the blame for defeat against Cagliari: Serie A news
A.S Roma manager, Luis Enrique, has taken the blame for his team’s 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cagliari in the opening fixture of the 2011/12 Serie A campaign.
After a very busy summer transfer market, Enrique was under immense scrutiny after the Giallorossi were dumped out of the Preliminary round of the UEFA Europa League and defeat against Cagliari has done nothing good to give assurances
over the manager’s future.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604 star admitted that being the manager of the team the responsibility of defeat lies on him and he is disappointed with the result because according to him his team dominated the proceedings.
The tactician has been handed a project of taking http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Roma-c31603 to new heights and the new owners have demanded him to replicate Barcelona’s philosophy at the Stadio Olimpico Rome. However, Enrique has once again refused to draw any timelines
on when his team will return to winning ways.
Talking to the reporters Enrique said, “I take the blame, as I am the Coach. We held so much possession, especially in the second half, but couldn’t take our chances. I have been asked the same question since I got here: how long
will it take? I have a good squad and am certainly disappointed with the result, especially for the fans.”
“However, I cannot answer that question. I do not know how long it will take to develop this project. The club did not ask me for any objectives this season.”
Despite a poor start to his Giallorossi career, the former Real Madrid star is confident that he will be successful in his project. The 41-year-old added that when a team loses, the whole team needs to be blamed including the manager
and same is the case with him.
Enrique also defended young left-back, Jose Angel, who picked up a red card on his Serie A debut. The tactician believes that the booking was too harsh and the youngster did not deserve to be sent off.
Roma will face a stern test against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Inter-c39567 Milan in their next league game on September 17, 2011.
