The Giallorossi chief has commended the former Barcelona B coach stating that the club is heading in the right direction; urges the fans to support the manager.
AS Roma suffered a 2-1 defeat to Lazio in Derby della Capitale at the weekend, as the Biancazzurri completed their first double over Giallorossi in 15 years.
Luis Enrique has been heavily criticised for Roma’s recent defeat, and the fans have started to lose patience with the Spaniard.
However, Walter Sabatini has slammed the critics, stating that it is wrong to blame the coach for everything. The Sporting Director insisted that he has seen Enrique work on daily basis, and the club has no regrets of handing him
the coaching role at Stadio Olimpico Rome.
While talking to Sky Sport Italia, the Lupi official said:
“We would make the same choice again. We are totally convinced about our Coach because we see how he works on a daily basis and because of the way that he understands football. He’s brought a new mentality to the squad, one that
we wanted, and we have no regrets at all about Luis Enrique.”
Sabatini blasted the critics for blaming the coach for everything that goes wrong at the club. He emphasized that it is important to understand the devolution of authority before blaming anyone.
“People always blame the Coach, but he can only field the players that he has at his disposal – and I decided who stayed and which new players to sign.”
Following their defeat to Lazio, the Giallorossi have slipped to the 6th position in the league standings. Ten points separate the Giallorossi from top-three positions, and Sabatini is confident that his team can make
a late charge for UEFA Champions League spot.
Roma await another difficult game, as they will travel to Palermo for their round 27 game on Saturday, March 10. The Giallorossi are faced with host of injury concerns, as experienced defender, Juan, has also joined the casualty
list. The Brazilian is expected to miss remainder of the season.
