Luis Fabiano denies exit rumours despite lack of first-team action
Sevilla forward Luis Fabiano has denied reports linking him with a move away from the club, but admits he has had to endure a “tough period” in Seville. The Brazilian explained: "I'm going
through a tough period, but it isn't the end of the world.”
Fabiano has been the subject of plenty of transfer rumours over the summer, with Tottenham boss Harry Redknapp particularly interested in taking the player to White Hart Lane. However,
nothing materialised, and the player stayed in Spain. Since then, Fabiano has endured a difficult start to the season. Having featured only four times in La Liga so far this term, with just one of those from the start, he is desperate for more first-team action.
"I want continuity. I don't want to play one game and spend the next on the bench. I don't understand something that isn't good for Sevilla. It isn't good for me either,” Fabiano stated.
The Brazilian has found himself forced down the pecking order since the arrival of new coach, Gregorio Manzano, who has favoured the pairing of Frederic Kanoute and Alvaro Negredo up-front.
Despite his disillusionment at the situation, Fabiano insists he wants to stay at the club. "I'm not thinking about leaving in January. I just want to play again. January is a long way away. I don't know what will happen. If things remained the same in January
I would seek a solution,” he declared.
At 29-years-old, he perhaps only has a few more years at the top of his game, so wasting them sat on the bench would be far from an ideal scenario for the player. His situation may rest
on Sevilla lowering their asking price though, after they placed a hefty £24-25m price tag on him in the summer. Time will tell, but there will certainly be a few top European clubs monitoring the situation over the next couple of months.
