While talking to TV Globo, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Brazil-c2858 international Luis Fabiano, returned to his European career and spoke about his regrets at not being able to played for a big club in Europe – a category in which he includes Olympique de Marseille
In the summer of 2010, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mamadou-Niang-c23292 who had left Les Phoceens for Fenerbahce. Luis Fabiano was the striker that coach Didier Deschamps wanted.
Marseille leaders had entered negotiations with La Liga side Seville for Fabiano’s transfer. However, those negotiations soon ended as Marseille perceived Seville’s demands for the Brazilian too high.
The decision left a bitter taste in Fabiano’s mouth and the Brazil still regrets at not being able to secure a move to the Rhone side.
“I had proposals from Real Madrid, AC Milan and Olympique de Marseille. The president of Seville refused all proposals. I think it influenced me then to return home. I’m sad for not being able to play in a big European club,” said http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Fabiano-c13129.
These comments certainly leave a bitter taste in the mouth of Marseille officials too. Especially after, in order to find a striker, Les Phoceens recruited Andre-Pierre Gignac from Toulouse. Unfortunately, the French striker for Marseille, was far from what
we call a bet.
Gignac has failed to prove that he can play in Ligue 1 let alone for a club of Marseille’s stature.
Frustrated by the decisions of Seville, Fabiano left http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Paulo-c29431. The 31-year-old has already scored seven goals this year for the Brazilian giants and his experience is much valued there.
Certainly, Olympique de Marseille must be feeling that they should have somehow devised a way to bring Fabiano to the Stade Velodrome rather than going for a striker who is more than just a shadow of his former self.
OM would have had much need of a scorer of Fabiano’s stature on Wednesday when they face Bayern Munich in the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League. Now, Didier Deschamps must be hoping that Fabiano’s fellow countryman, Brandao turns up with the goods.
